MILK KEFIR AVOCADO SMOOTHIE

We drink a lot of kefir in my house. I make about 2-3 litres a week to make kefir cheese, dips, baked goods and smoothies.   My family starts each day with a kefir smoothie.  We love the tart kefir flavour and the probiotic diversity found in homemade kefir.  I recently heard about substituting bananas with avocados to reduce the sugar content in smoothies.   My daughter still won’t give up her banana, but I’m hooked!  I know it might sound crazy having milk kefir and avocado in a smoothie.  Trust me, you can’t taste the avocado and the smoothie is so creamy, rich, delicious and satisfyingly filling!

AVOCADOS: FULL OF HEALTHY FAT & FLAVOUR!

Super delicious avocados full of healthy monounsaturated fat

The avocado is an incredibly nutrient-dense fruit.  It is very high in healthy monounsaturated fat, fibre, extremely low in sugar, and is cholesterol and sodium free.  Adding this nutritious fruit to your meal helps to satiate hunger as well as your palate, since avocados are downright delicious!  Pairing avocados with protein, calcium and probiotic-packed milk kefir and other delicious, nutritious additions creates a super smoothie meal that will keep you satisfied for hours!

SMOOTHIE ADDITIONS

I like to add hemp seeds to my smoothies for extra protein, omega fatty acids, and amino acids.  I also vary my fruit addition between raspberry or mixed tropical.  Any fruit combo works,  it’s all personal preference!  If I don’t have any vanilla milk kefir that I’ve made during a second fermentation, I add a dash of pure vanilla extract.  You can also add a scoop of your favourite protein powder with the frozen fruit, or just use the protein powder, kefir, avocado and add some ice cubes.

This smoothie is so thick and rich, it would also work great as a base for a smoothie bowl.  Try swapping out your banana with an avocado in your next kefir smoothie,  I guarantee you’ll love it!!
